Difference between Acne Marks and Acne Scars

Acne marks and acne scars are both forms of skin damage that can result from acne, but they differ in several ways.

 Acne Marks

Acne marks, also known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, are discolorations on the skin that are usually red, pink, or purple in color. They occur when the skin produces too much melanin in response to inflammation caused by acne. Acne marks are not permanent and can fade over time, although it may take several months for them to disappear completely

Acne Scars

Acne scars, on the other hand, are permanent changes to the skin that occur as a result of the healing process after severe acne. Acne scars can be either depressed or raised. Depressed scars, also known as atrophic scars, are caused by the loss of tissue during the healing process, resulting in an indentation in the skin. Raised scars, also known as hypertrophic scars, are caused by an overproduction of collagen during the healing process, resulting in a raised area of skin.

In summary, the main difference between acne marks and acne scars is that acne marks are temporary discolorations on the skin, while acne scars are permanent changes to the skin’s texture and appearance.
